Farmers Insurance raising rates in Texas

Farmers_3If your home is insured with Farmers, you may want to hold on to the stimulus package check before you splurge on that sofa. You may need to give some of that money to your home insurance. According to a story by the Houston Chronicle, Farmers is planning to raise its home insurance rates by 3-13% all over the State of Texas in May of this year. Harris County is expected to get hit with a 9% hike. According to Farmers, this move is intended to ensure that the company would be able to meet its obligations in regards to "higher than normal" re-insurance costs and to account for any future events that might happen.

I think they're just thinking it's about that time for some more money.

A new home for the Houston Dynamo... maybe

Dynamo_logo_300_dpi1_2 As reported by the Houston Chronicle, the City of Houston has taken the first steps in securing a new home for our Houston Dynamo -- Major League Soccer's Champions two years in a row. The City has made an offer in excess of $15 million to purchase five downtown blocks near Texas and Walker as a potential stadium site. The offered price places the land value at $42/SF and the City is reportedly negotiating to trade for a sixth adjacent block.

The Dynamo have been utilizing University of Houston's Robertson stadium subsequent to their transfer from San Diego two years ago. Still, road might be long to the actual construction since the City and team owners have to reach an agreement as to the construction costs.
